Why six-letter words work well as openers
An opening play in Scrabble or Words With Friends has to pass through the center square, and longer words reach further across the board toward bonus squares. Six-letter words often let you claim a double or triple word score on the opening move without needing a full seven-letter bingo, which requires a much rarer combination of tiles.
Balancing score against rack risk
Playing a six-letter word usually leaves one tile behind, which is a much smaller commitment than playing all seven and hoping for a good replacement draw. This makes six-letter words a reasonable choice when you have a decent but not spectacular rack and want to score well without emptying it.
Searching by pattern and letter
Use the pattern finder to search for six-letter words matching letters you already hold — for example, if you have S, T, R, E, and two unknowns, a pattern search narrows the list to exactly the words those tiles can form.
Filtering by starting or ending letter
