Privacy Policy

This policy explains what happens to your data when you use WordCue, in plain language. WordCue is built to need as little of your data as possible.

01

No accounts, no backend

WordCue does not require you to create an account, and there is no server-side database that stores your searches, results or personal details. The dictionary lookups, solvers and calculators all run using data bundled with the app directly in your browser.

02

What's stored on your device

Your search history and any favourites you save are kept only in your browser's localStorage, on your own device. This data never leaves your browser as part of WordCue's own operation, and you can clear it at any time from the Settings page.

WordCue's service worker also caches app files, the dictionary, and definition and pronunciation data locally so the app can work offline. This is a technical caching mechanism, not a record of your personal activity.

03

Pronunciation audio

Word pronunciations are generated using your browser's built-in speech synthesis feature. No audio is recorded, uploaded or sent to any server as part of this feature.

04

Advertising and third-party cookies

WordCue displays advertising through Google AdSense. Google, as a third-party vendor, may use cookies, device identifiers, or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites, and to measure ad performance.

You can manage or opt out of personalised advertising through Google's Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com), and you can control cookies generally through your browser's privacy settings. Some browsers also let you block third-party cookies entirely, which limits ad personalisation.

05

Analytics

WordCue may use standard, privacy-conscious analytics to understand overall usage patterns, such as which pages are visited. This is used in aggregate to improve the site and is not tied to an account, because no accounts exist.

06

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time as the app changes. Continued use of WordCue after an update means you accept the revised policy.
