Word Dictionary
WordCue's dictionary is a bundled, local word list of over 350,000 English words, along with definitions and pronunciations sourced from local dictionary data shards — no external API calls, and it works offline once the page has loaded. This hub is a starting point for exploring that list in different ways.
You can browse by word length (useful for Wordle, crosswords, and rack management in tile games), by starting or ending letter, by which letters a word must or must not contain, or by patterns with known and unknown positions — the kind of lookup you need when you already have some letters placed on a board.
The pattern finder embedded below lets you search using underscores for unknown letters (like _R_NE to find CRANE), and the dedicated length pages linked further down give you curated lists for the most commonly needed lengths.

Browsing by word length
Word length matters differently depending on what you're doing: 5-letter words for Wordle-style games, 7 and 8-letter words for Scrabble bingos, short 2 and 3-letter words for filling tight spots on a crossword or Scrabble board. Each length page below is built for its most common real use case rather than being a generic list.
- 2-letter words — for parallel plays and tight board spaces
- 3-letter words — for rack management and hooks
- 4-letter words — for crosswords and Wordle-adjacent games
- 5-letter words — for Wordle, Quordle, and Octordle
- 6-letter words — for strong board openings
- 7-letter words — for bingos and full-rack plays
Filtering by starting or ending letter
If you need words that begin or end with a specific letter — common when you're building off an existing letter on a board — use the dedicated starts-with and ends-with finders, or restrict a pattern search to a fixed first or last position (for example, C____ for five-letter words starting with C).
Filtering by contained letters and patterns
The pattern finder supports mixed known and unknown positions in one search, which is exactly what a crossword or Scrabble situation usually looks like: a few fixed letters from crossing words and blanks everywhere else. Enter the pattern once and get every valid word from the local dictionary that fits.
Definitions and pronunciations
Every word in WordCue's list can be looked up for its definition and pronunciation using the local dictionary shards bundled with the app. Because this data lives on your device rather than being fetched from a server, lookups are instant and work even without an internet connection.
